Irish Old Man

Irish Old Man
by Brian Russell
the old man

I'm an Irish old man
So I guess I have luck
My riches aren't plenty
Not nary a buck

I've been through some hard times
But I've muddled through
With God's grace and mercy
When life has been blue

I've tried on my own
To make it all right
But it took His great love
To walk through the night

Now an Irish old man
Is Lucky they say
And though mine's been bad
I'll bless you today

First I'll give you the key
To a happier life
Make friends with His Son
He'll help with your strife

Christ will give you His love
His strength and His shield
He will show you the way
But your will you must yield

An Irish blessing from me
Will not mean a thing
If that's why you came here
Make Christ your King

I'll leave you this blessing
From an Irish, not Keats
May all your requests
Never end in defeat.

Thanksgiving Reflection

Thanksgiving Reflection
by Brian, the old man

Once upon a time
Is how this story starts.
When I was just a babe
You touched my parents hearts.

They brought me to the water
And made a vow to You
To raise me to know Jesus,
His teachings through and through.

When I reached my teen years
The heart You touched was mine.
I knew Your Son had come for me,
Would love me for all time.

As I went out in the world,
A young adult you see,
I tried to do it on my own
But You still carried me.

As I tried to win the race
Of fame and fortune true,
I must confess my sin right now
I had forgotten You.

Though troubles were many You stayed right there
Through all my pain and strife.
My parents and You had taken a vow
To guide me through my life.

Looking back now I know You were there
Through all of those dark years.
You offered me unconditional love
And dried up all my tears.

You blessed me with a baby boy
Who fills my heart with pride,
A baby girl as sweet as can be
My love I cannot hide.

My parents and siblings have always been there
To show me how Christ cares.
Nieces and nephews have shown me Your love
Which helps me with what life bears.

You blessed me with friends all of my days
To brighten my life with joy.
Your church with traditions, love and support
Has made me one happy boy.

So today I am thankful for all of Your love
As we celebrate this Thanksgiving.
Please help me to shine my light on the world
And teach others Your Son is still living.

Good Morning Flower

This poem was inspired by the above picture which was offered by friend Carrie at Prompt Romp. Thanks Carrie for the inspiration.

Good Morning Flower
By Brian, the old man

Flower bright how are you
On this early morn?
Opening petals as to greet me,
Do you feel forlorn?

Are you lonely, ever waiting
For hummingbirds and bees?
Do you notice me approaching
Falling down upon my knees?

How refreshed do you feel
With the morning dew?
Does the sun bring you gladness
Shining down on you?

Do you know of your beauty?
Do you feel vain?
Or are you humble, meek and modest
Feeling sorrow and in pain?

If you find you’re unhappy
And you’re feeling sad
Know that I find you lovely
Your beauty makes me glad.

I can see from your petals
As they open wide
Your love and care for the world
You should be filled with pride.

Your scent’s appealing, your color vibrant
You brighten up my day
Don’t you worry, the birds and bees
Will soon be by to play.

Hop on Over, I'll Be There for You

Hop on Over, I'll Be There for You
By Brian, the old man

Bunny Hop
Bunny Go
Along the trail
Off to the show

He hears a sound
Stops on the trail
He hops some more
Into a pail

He is so fat
And round you see
He can't get out
Needs help from me

I gently push
the bucket over
He hops right out
Into the clover

He looks once more
As if to say
Thanks my friend
You made my day

I sit and think
He's fat like me
Glad for friends
To set him free

Friends give me hope
Support my goal
To lose the weight
And make me whole

Like my friends
You make me think
To eat healthy
Watch what I drink

Bunny hop
Bunny go
Thanks my friend
Enjoy the show

Let There Be Peace with You

Let There Be Peace with You
by Brian, the old man

The economy is down
No jobs in town
The cupboards are bare
No one seems to care
Let There Be Peace with You

Time spent all alone
No rings on the phone
As darkness sets in
I need a friend
Let There Be Peace with You

When troubles arise
It is no surprise
Faith seems to wane
There's no one to blame
Let There Be Peace with You

My family too far
Can't wish on a star
Life is not fair
This is my prayer
Let There Be Peace with You

May God Bless your life
To live without strife
In the Lord's way
Survive every day
Let There Be Peace with You
